Networked Printers for Group Use

The Kenan-Flagler IT Department manages, provides support for, provides black toner for, and contributes money towards the purchase of networked printers used by groups/areas at UNC Kenan-Flagler. This does NOT include the Kenan Institute, SBTDC, and other similar groups due to the different funding sources used.

Black and White Networked Printer

  • IT will pay for the full cost of new network printers (either for replacing existing printers or for new printers if there is a significant need)
  • IT will provide black toner cartridges
  • Recommended model: HP LaserJet Enterprise M608dn

Color Networked Printer

  • IT contribution – $500
  • IT will provide any black toner cartridges needed for this printer
  • Color toner cartridges will need to be purchased and provided by the associated group/area
    • We recommend checking both Staples and CDW’s ePro catalogs to find the best prices
    • You must order original HP toner cartridges (high-yield X version if possible)
      • Refurbished cartridges often leak which causes poor print quality and a big mess inside the printer which is very difficult to clean
  • Recommended model: HP Color LaserJet Enterprise M553dn

Non-Networked Printers for Individual Use

Printers for individual use are only permitted if the individual regularly needs to print confidential/sensitive documents. This ensures that the school is printing in the most cost effective way possible.

  • IT does NOT provide any toner for individual use printers
  • IT does NOT provide any contribution towards the cost of these printers
